Wood Finishing

Course Description:

The primary function of any wood finish (paint, varnish, and stain, for example) is to protect the wood surface, help maintain a certain appearance, and provide a cleanable surface. This course includes relevant topics such as: Factors Affecting Finish Performance, Control of Water or Moisture in Wood, Types of Exterior Wood Finishes, Application of Wood Finishes, and Finish Failure or Discoloration.

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

• Understand the factors that affect finish performance
• Know the types of finish for both exterior and interior wood
• Understand the reasons for finish failure
• Know the methods for removing wood finishes
