Course Description:

 

The purpose of this course is to provide background on the tornado hazard in the Southeast. The course also identifies FEMA resources that can be used to help design and construct portions of almost any building type to provide safe shelter from tornadoes, or to help minimize damage caused by these wind events.

 

Learning Objectives:

 

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the purpose of the Fujita scale.
  • Know how to assess a low, moderate and high tornado risk using a Frequency Map
  • Understand how high-wind shelters can be designed and constructed to protect occupants from winds and windborne debris associated with tornadoes.
  • Learn what features to look for in a NOAA Weather Radio.
