Course Description:

This course provides recommended criteria for the postearthquake damage assessment, evaluation and repair of steel moment-frame buildings. These recommendations were developed by practicing engineers, based on professional judgment and experience, and by a program of laboratory, field and analytical research.

Learning Objectives:

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

• Learn a uniform system for classification and reporting of damage to steel moment-frame structures that have been subjected to strong earthquake ground shaking.
• Understand how to perform an assessment for each steel moment-frame building to determine the likelihood of significant structural damage following a potentially damaging earthquake.
• Understand what is involved in a level 1 and level 2 detailed postearthquake evaluation.
• Learn the criteria for structural repair of earthquake damage.
