Maintenance and Repair of Surface Areas

Course Description:

This course provides guidance for all Army, Navy, and Air Force installation personnel engaged in the maintenance and repair of surfaced areas and related structures. It is intended to be practical and concise and useful to foremen as well as engineers. The manual provides guidance for effective maintenance and repair of roads, streets, parking and open-storage areas, walks, airfields, and similar traffic areas at Army, Navy, and Air Force installations.

Learning Objectives:

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

• Understand basic pavement types and the methods and procedures for maintenance, repair, and resurfacing of pavements.
• Understand what is involved in adequate drainage of surface and ground water in the design, construction, and maintenance of roads, railroads, airfields, parking areas, and cantonments.
• Understand how the types of bridges and bridge surfaces should be tailored to the traffic they will received.
• Understand the components of preventative maintenance for roads, streets, hardstands, and runways.
