Enclosures and Breakaway Walls

Course Description:

The purpose of this course is to discuss requirements and recommendations for enclosures and breakaway walls below the Base Flood Elevation (BFE).

Learning Objectives:

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

• Understand the long-term effects of the construction of enclosures below elevated residential buildings and post-construction conversion of enclosed space to habitable use in A zones and V zones.
• Understand what the space below the base flood elevation can be used for.
• Learn how an enclosure is formed.
• Learn the design requirements for breakaway walls.
