Drying and Control of Moisture Content and Dimensional Changes of Wood

Course Description:

This course will cover correct drying, handling, and storage of wood which will minimize moisture content changes that might occur after drying when the wood is in service and such changes are undesirable. If moisture content is controlled within reasonable limits by such methods, major problems from dimensional changes can usually be avoided.

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

• Understand the recommended moisture content of wood.
• Learn four methods of determining moisture content in wood.
• Understand the advantages dried lumber has over green lumber for producers and consumers.
• Learn how to control moisture in lumber and other wood items during transit and storage.
