Decks, Pools and Accessory Structures

Course Description:

The purpose of this course is to summarize National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) requirements and general guidelines for the construction and installation of decks, access stairs and elevators, swimming pools, and accessory buildings under or near coastal buildings.

Learning Objectives:

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

• Understand the requirements for accessory buildings in coastal construction.
• Understand requirements and recommendations for decks of coastal buildings.
• Know the requirements for access stairs and elevators of coastal buildings.
• Understand the requirements for swimming pools of coastal buildings.
• Understand the types of foundation that decks can be built on in coastal environments.
